Hanby Elementary students got a taste of what fourth-graders are learning about with a school-wide sampling of Three Sisters Soup, a Native American recipe that includes three of the main indigenous crops of North America: corn, squash and beans.
Third-grade students from 11 Westerville City Schools elementaries are celebrating world languages and cultures through song in special community concerts at 7 p.m. Nov. 19, Nov. 20 and Nov. 21 at Westerville Central High School.
National School Psychology Week, which runs from Nov. 11 to Nov. 15, celebrates the contributions of school psychologists and the role they play in schools and communities. It is also an annual opportunity to recognize school psychologists' work to help children thrive in school, at home and in life.
Steve Prescott, an artist whose work has been featured in Dungeons & Dragons books, Magic: The Gathering cards and fantasy games, shared how animal features have inspired many of his published fantasy art illustrations for third-graders in Mara Katz’s and Jenny Findell’s classes at Hanby Elementary.
Starting Monday, schools throughout the district are rolling out various activities and events to build community and foster a sense of belonging in honor of Start with Hello Week.
Created by the Sandy Hook Promise organization, Start with Hello Week runs Sept. 16-20 and is focused on helping students build empathy, healthy relationships and social awareness through social-emotional lessons and activities.
From new flooring to updated technology, several elementary schools welcomed students this year with renovated and refreshed spaces all throughout their buildings. The renovation work was part of the first phase of the district’s Facilities Master Plan.
